Vilamendhoo Maldives Resort Island Logo: Inspired by Nature and the Ocean

Since opening in 2000, Vilamendhoo Resort has welcomed guests seeking extraordinary diving, a vibrant house reef, relaxed island living and a genuine connection to nature. The resort evolved over the years, so did its visual identity. The resort name has been refreshed to Vilamendhoo Maldives Resort Island, and a new logo has been created to complement the experiences, emotions, nature and the beauty of the underwater world and marine life that have always shaped the island.

The previous logo carried a strong sense of nostalgia and adventure. Inspired by Vilamendhoo’s iconic timber yacht Gomafulhu, long associated with ocean discovery tours around the atoll, the design symbolised exploration and movement across the Indian Ocean. Its triangular sail motifs reflected the layered blues and turquoise shades of the surrounding waters, becoming a familiar emblem for guests who shared unforgettable moments at sea, from snorkelling vibrant reefs to searching for whale sharks and mantas in open waters.

The new identity draws inspiration from the ocean itself and the remarkable marine life surrounding the island. At first glance, the logomark evokes the movement of the sea and coral reef formations beneath the surface. On closer inspection, the silhouette of a whale shark gradually appears within the design, paying tribute to one of the most iconic marine encounters experienced at Vilamendhoo. Smaller fish woven throughout the circular logo-mark celebrate the harmony and interconnectedness of the thriving reef ecosystem that surrounds the island.

A defining feature of the logo is its subtle flowing gradient of blues. The colour transition mirrors a guest’s journey from the island’s lush tropical greenery to the vivid blues and turquoise tones of the lagoon and outer reef. It reflects the seamless relationship between land and sea that defines the Vilamendhoo Island living experience.

The resort’s expanded colour palette continues this story of nature and balance. Blues and turquoise represent the Indian Ocean and crystal-clear lagoon, while sunset orange draws inspiration from the spectacular Maldivian sunsets. Soft sand tones pay tribute to the island’s white sandy beaches.
