If diving, snorkelling or swimming with manta rays appears on your bucket list, and you’re yearning for an idyllic tropical holiday, Komandoo Maldives in manta season awaits! Mantas and Maldives is a winning combination when it comes to a memorable holiday so get ready for a holiday of a lifetime that will turn into a habit.

Manta season in Lhaviyani Atoll usually starts with the mantas arriving at the cleaning stations of Fushifaru Thila during September and October. The rays glide, seemingly effortlessly, over the huge coral blocks for the cleaner wrasse to feast on the parasites in their gills and on their body, and our divers get to enjoy an unforgettable display. A little later in the season, usually during November, the mantas move to their feeding grounds on the western side of the atoll and aggregations of them frequent the lagoons very close to Komandoo. Snorkellers and divers generally enjoy encounters regularly right through until March or April.

The ocean is unpredictable and the mantas are wild creatures with a will of their own, so we cannot absolutely guarantee sightings but you will have a very good chance at the right time of year, especially if you join us for scuba diving and snorkelling excursions as often as you can while staying with us.

Special excursions, such as the Manta Search Tour for snorkellers, are available when mantas are known to be around and these, along with many more exciting adventures, can be booked on komandoo.com as soon as you have a confirmed reservation at our resort.

Here’s a sneak preview of what manta season at Komandoo can be like.
